Solutions for Researchers

Researchers can access the world's largest collection of biochemical, chemical, chemical engineering, medical, and other related information through various CAS and STN products.

CAS is the leading provider of organic, inorganic, and biosequence substance information:

  • More than 16 million single- and multi-step reactions
  • More than 1 billion predicted property values
  • More than 2 million experimental property values
  • The CAS REGISTRY database - the original source and final authority for CAS Registry Numbers (CASRNs or CAS Numbers) - updated daily
  • All patent records, meeting CAS selection criteria, from 9 of the major patent offices are available online within 2 days of the patents' issuance

To access the databases, you can use one or more of the following products:

  • SciFinder - a scientific research tool that provides access to the CAS databases and MEDLINE
  • STN Easy - web access for the occasional or novice searcher

Explore databases that will allow you to:

  • discover relationships between diseases, biological processes, organic molecules and biomolecules
  • find reactions and develop a synthesis plan
  • obtain substance information and corresponding references easily
  • explore by substructure and include stereochemistry in your structure question
  • obtain current information on commercially available chemicals and their worldwide suppliers, quickly and easily
  • link to key domestic and international regulatory information
